More action from the great Sardine Run!
There are apparently huge numbers of fish further offshore – the best “run” documented for some years now.
There’s a bit of a cold front passing through and there is a chilly wind blowing off the Drakensburg and out to sea. It’s apparently enough to keep the fish from venturing too close to the coastline
I was hoping to see them up close – I’ve been told that there are so many fish in the surf, that you literally see a wall of fish as the waves are just about to break. I had a title lined up for my ideal photo, which I won’t be taking this year…. one day I’ll capture “Fish Face”…

Nice
Thanks Eden
I like the glistening sun on the wave. It must be an awesome sight seeing these birds en masse. Interesting colours too – I’ve just read your reply to Eden on your previous post; I thought it was B&W too.
Thanks Meanderer – yes it is quite something to behold. I only wonder at how it would have looked had it been the “full event” with all the dolphins and other predatory fish in the picture too… utter chaos yet amazing at the same time
So Beautiful..!
Thank you Ana
Wonderful composition. Captures the chaotic ballet of nature.
Thank you Elmediat, It was an impossible photo to crop without losing some part of a bird somewhere! I love your description of it as a “chaotic ballet of nature” – beautiful.
this must be amazing to watch from any distance – by the way beautiful photo
Yes, thank you Rob. I’ve been told of some wonderful encounters, which I would love to see for myself – like you say – at any distance!
