Ok, here’s a new Portmanteau for you all to muse…
I’ve Googled it – it doesn’t exist (the closest Google got was sympathy) so you can consider this term coined here and now on The Unwitting Traveller!
So, what is it?
SM – Social Media +
App – Applications (as in those which decorate my smart phone screen) +
Apathy: (according to Encarta Dictionary: English (UK))
- Lack of enthusiasm or energy [lack of interest in anything, or the absence of any wish to do anything]
- Emotional emptiness [inability to feel normal or passionate human feelings or to respond emotionally]
SMAppathy: Social Media/SMart phone Applications Apathy – I think I’ve got a dose of this particular malaise coming on. Am I the only one?
It’s a continuation of my musings since last week’s post “Make Time”. It’s no good reducing the number of hours on the internet on my lap top, if I keep checking all the latest updates on the iPhone, is it!!?
So, to get past this and reach beyond, I’m returning to some good old fashioned knitting, some doodling (good gracious me!) and of course, working on my photographs in Lightroom and Photoshop, without using any presets!

It wasn’t too cold – about 10-12C, but that’s summer in Iceland for you!
Oooh, I love neogisms. I think what you’ve described is a common symptom of our times. Lots of technology, lots of passionlessness and fabricated passion (which are two sides of the same coin to me).
Whether you’re experiencing that or not, you’ve generated a truly lovely photo that inspires feeling and curiosity. Nicely done

I’m not sure if it is a common symptom as yet, but given time I reckon we’re all going to be reaching for the hands-on hobbies and crafts!
oops, in my tiredness, I spelled that new word wrong – I meant ‘neologisms’… (maybe my subconscious wishful thinking that I’d designed my own new word…)
I hope we do, as a society, return to working with our hands

Excellent submission Lu! I can “feel” Iceland’s chill against my cheeks just by looking at the photograph and it’s almost like the bridge is an illusion – blink and it might be gone! Well done!

I’m suffering from general apathy . . .
I have times like that too – talking of watercolour paintings, my latest rut-buster is getting back to doodling and painting. I say getting back to, but I never got to do too much when I was younger (had to study serious subjects at school – this was seen as a hobby and there’s no money in that…!) It’s quite cathartic, even though I suck!
